Xatoms Inc.

About

Xatoms Inc. is a Toronto-based clean technology company developing advanced materials that use light to remove harmful contaminants from water. Its core innovation is an AI-enabled platform that designs photocatalytic materials capable of treating heavy metals, organic pollutants, and biological contaminants with lower energy and chemical input than conventional methods. The company’s solutions are designed to support industrial sectors such as mining, manufacturing, and water treatment, where regulatory compliance and operational efficiency are critical.

Project

With support from the CIT Development and Commercialization program, and in collaboration with Cambrian College’s Centre for Smart Mining, this project focuses on validating Xatoms’ light-activated materials for mining water treatment. The work involves controlled laboratory testing to assess performance, reproducibility, and operating conditions for removing priority contaminants such as heavy metals and microbial pollutants under realistic conditions. Using Cambrian’s specialized facilities, the project will generate independent, third-party validation data to refine Xatoms’ data-driven platform and prepare the technology for pilot deployment in mining environments.

Impact

The project will advance Xatoms’ materials toward commercialization by delivering independently validated performance data required for adoption in the mining sector. By enabling lower-energy, more efficient water treatment, the solution supports improved environmental outcomes and regulatory compliance for mining operations. Outcomes include increased customer confidence, accelerated pilot opportunities, and expanded market adoption, positioning Xatoms as a leader in AI-driven clean water technologies and strengthening Ontario’s role in sustainable mining innovation.
