Xatoms Inc. is a Toronto-based clean technology company developing advanced materials for water purification in complex industrial environments. The company uses artificial intelligence and quantum chemistry to accelerate the discovery of new photocatalyst materials capable of treating contaminants such as heavy metals, chemicals, and biological pollutants. Its approach focuses on reducing energy use and operating costs while improving treatment performance, particularly in sectors like mining where water management is both critical and challenging.
This project focuses on advancing Xatoms’ AI-driven platform by applying it to real-world mining conditions. In collaboration with NORCAT’s Underground Centre, Xatoms will collect and analyze authentic mine-water samples to better understand the complex chemistry of mining wastewater. These datasets will be used to train and refine the company’s material discovery platform, enabling the identification and ranking of new photocatalyst candidates. The most promising materials will then be synthesized and validated using real samples, helping move the technology closer to practical application in mining operations.
This project supports Xatoms in developing mining-specific water treatment materials that can reduce energy consumption and operating costs while maintaining compliance with environmental standards. By enabling treatment under visible light or low-power LEDs, the solution offers a more efficient alternative to traditional systems. The project also contributes to the creation of Ontario-based datasets and validation pathways that can support broader innovation across the sector. As the technology progresses toward deployment, Xatoms is positioned to unlock new commercial opportunities, support high-skilled job creation, and contribute to more sustainable water management practices in mining.
