WG Pro Manufacturing Inc. is an established Ontario-based co-packer that provides specialized production and distribution services for major global brands in the food and beverage industry. By integrating advanced robotics into its facilities, the company helps its clients overcome labour shortages and increase production efficiency.
Through this Development and Commercialization supported project, WG Pro will leverage the MMRI TDS to focus on the development of an AI-driven predictive maintenance system for autonomous robotic packaging lines. This system will use advanced sensors and artificial intelligence to monitor machine health and predict equipment failures before they happen. By identifying maintenance needs proactively, the technology aims to eliminate unplanned downtime—a problem that costs the industry billions annually—and reduces the need for emergency parts storage.
The project will result in the use of computer-generated physics models to train the AI, allowing the technology to adapt to new machine types quickly with minimal real-world testing. WG Pro plans to bring this solution to market through a “robotics as a service” model, where clients can utilize automated systems through a toll-based structure while benefiting from AI-powered uptime predictability. This initiative is expected to drive significant productivity gains, mitigate labour challenges, and create new economic opportunities within Ontario’s robotics sector.
