vGIS Inc. is a software company specializing in geospatial technology for infrastructure and utility construction with a customer base spanning over 200 organizations, including major utilities, engineering firms, and government agencies.  The vGIS platform helps infrastructure teams visualize, document, and manage underground and surface utilities in real time. It combines high-accuracy 3D scanning, AI-powered data capture, and construction-grade augmented reality (AR) to streamline as-built documentation, reduce rework, and improve collaboration between field crews and office teams.

Project

This project focuses on developing and training AI models to support quality control and invoicing in fiber and utility infrastructure projects. The models will analyze excavation performance using collected field data to assess compliance with regulatory standards and project-specific owner requirements. By automating these evaluations, the system will improve accuracy, streamline documentation, and support faster, data-driven decision-making across project phases.  vGIS will leverage the technical expertise and infrastructure of the ventureLAB TDS in this Technology Access Program supported project.

Impact & Outcomes

This project will deliver a fully integrated, AI-driven platform for automated quality control and invoicing in subsurface utility infrastructure projects.  Following phased commercialization of the platform, vGIS forecasts revenue of up to $1.5M within 24 months and the need to hire an additional four full-time employees.  The platform will also enable Ontario’s construction sector to modernize processes and reduce project delays.
