vGIS

About

vGIS Inc. is a software company specializing in geospatial technology for infrastructure and utility construction with a customer base spanning over 200 organizations, including major utilities, engineering firms, and government agencies.  The vGIS platform helps infrastructure teams visualize, document, and manage underground and surface utilities in real time. It combines high-accuracy 3D scanning, AI-powered data capture, and construction-grade augmented reality (AR) to streamline as-built documentation, reduce rework, and improve collaboration between field crews and office teams.

Project

With support from the Development and Commercialization program, the project will focus on advancing and testing a mobile 3D scanning app and integrating it with utility locating hardware to capture highly accurate spatial data of excavation sites. In parallel, vGIS will validate an AI-powered platform that analyzes field data to support real-time claim validation, compliance checks, and automated documentation.  The company will work the Evergreen TDS to test the full system under real-world conditions, ensuring its accuracy, usability, and performance across a variety of site scenarios

Impact & Outcomes

This project will result in a validated, field-tested digital solution that integrates three critical technologies – 3D scanning, utility locating systems, and AI-powered claims validation for subsurface infrastructure projects. Access to the Evergreen TDS will provide Real-world validation results, including performance metrics, user feedback, and refinement cycles. Following phased commercialization of the platform, vGIS forecasts revenue of up to $1.5M within 24 months and the need to hire an additional four full-time employees.  The platform will also enable Ontario’s construction sector to modernize processes and reduce project delays.
