True North Material Innovations

About

True North Material Innovations (TNMI) is focused on the commercialization of advanced materials utilizing AI. Their route to commercialization is providing a NorthStar for clients, through three pillars; make it, sell it, improve it. TNMI’s flagship product addresses the sell it, an AI-marketplace that goes beyond keyword searching and uses semantic searching; understanding a user’s niche problem and finding the ideal material to use, enabled by AI. TNMI is a Toronto-based, Agentic-as-a-Service company that has expanded to Germany. Combining Canada’s AI and Critical Minerals with Germany’s powerhouse manufacturing industry, we are stronger together.

Project

This project focuses on enhancing the intelligence layer of the NorthStar platform through the development of a knowledge graph-based architecture. By structuring relationships between materials, applications, and market opportunities, the solution allows users to explore new use cases and connections more effectively. Leveraging ventureLAB’s AI compute infrastructure, TNMI will develop and test an Agentic AI workflow capable of generating and interacting with these knowledge graphs. The project will improve how users discover applications for materials, support collaboration, and strengthen decision-making across the commercialization process. Put simply, we are creating niche-industry specific experts.

Impact

This project supports TNMI’s transition from early-stage development to a functional prototype that can be piloted with industry partners. By improving how material data is structured and explored, the platform helps organizations uncover new applications, reduce time spent on research, and make more informed commercialization decisions. The initiative also creates new opportunities for technical hiring and collaboration with Ontario-based companies in mining and manufacturing. As adoption grows, TNMI is positioned to contribute to stronger domestic value chains and reinforce Ontario’s role in applying AI to industrial innovation.
