
Triple Automation specializes in the design and integration of industrial robotic systems that automate labour-intensive and ergonomically challenging tasks in advanced manufacturing and agri-food environments. The company delivers both modular “plug-and-play” automation solutions as well as fully custom automation cells tailored to customer-specific processes, materials, and production constraints. Custom automation represents a core competency of the company, particularly in applications where standard, off-the-shelf automation solutions are insufficient due to variability, delicacy of materials, or environmental constraints.
Through this Development and Commercialization supported project, Triple Automation will look to develop an AI-enabled robotic harvesting system designed specifically for specialty mushroom production, where biological variability, delicate handling requirements, and inconsistent visual ripeness cues have historically prevented automation. Triple Automation will be working with the MMRI TDS for support in system design and validation, as well as fabrication of end-of-arm tooling fabrication.
The project will deliver a validated robotic harvesting prototype for specialty mushrooms that has undergone a proof-of-concept demonstration as well as foundational AI vision models trained for agricultural harvesting environments. In the first six months post-project, Triple Automation will complete on-site integration with the initial customer and ensure successful adoption, positioning the customer as a reference and net promoter. This system is estimated to increase mushroom production capacity and efficiency by approximately 30% as well as decreasing waste and increasing yields.
