TinyBox Systems

About

TinyBox is revolutionizing modular housing by redesigning the building itself as an integrated manufactured product. Their proprietary system combines a high-strength steel structure, vacuum-insulated panels, repeatable mechanical connections and integrated weatherproofing and finishing functions. Complexity is resolved through product design and factory manufacturing instead of being passed to the installer.  The result is a building that can be transported without an oversized completed module and assembled using simple tools, fewer people and substantially less site work. Individual components remain light enough to be handled without cranes or heavy equipment.

Project

This Technology Access Project will utilize the Evergreen Brickworks TDS to test exoskeleton-assisted handling and assembly. In addition to reducing physical strain, the exoskeleton will force the team to make component weight, reach, grip points, tolerances and connection sequences simple and repeatable enough for future use with off-the-shelf robotics equipment.  Evergreen and the public will be able to observe the platform move from design and customization to an installed, operational building. TinyBox will also begin generating useful installation and performance data immediately, leaving most of the project period available for observation, feedback and improvement.

Impact

The Evergreen Living Laboratory will operate as TinyBox’s first long-duration demonstration and validation site. Customers, municipalities, contractors, partners and investors will be able to see, enter and experience the building rather than evaluating it only through drawings or presentations.  Based on TinyBox’s past sales experience, an in-person visit improves the likelihood of closing a qualified opportunity by at least 20%. TinyBox expects this demo to increase qualified lead’s close rate from approximately 10% to 12%. It will also shorten sales discussions by answering questions about building quality, installation, user experience and the adaptive foundation in a working environment.
