Alpha Nova Inc. is an Ontario-based technology and applied research company developing advanced software and AI solutions for high-risk industrial environments. The company focuses on improving worker safety and operational efficiency across sectors such as mining, industrial processing, and remote infrastructure. Its flagship product, Vanguardian, is a non-wearable fall-detection system that uses RF sensing and embedded AI to monitor workers in real time without requiring personal devices. This approach reduces reliance on wearables while supporting continuous, unobtrusive safety monitoring in complex environments.
Rather than relying on wearable devices, this project advances a passive, RF-based system that can detect falls and hazardous events using fixed infrastructure. In collaboration with Cambrian College’s Centre for Smart Mining, Alpha Nova will further develop and validate Vanguardian through applied research and underground testing. The work focuses on refining RF sensing performance in complex mine layouts, improving AI model accuracy in noisy environments, and preparing the system for real-world deployment. The outcome is a field-ready prototype designed to operate reliably in underground conditions while delivering consistent, real-time safety monitoring.
This project moves Vanguardian from early-stage validation toward a deployable solution for underground mining operations. By improving detection reliability and eliminating the need for wearable devices, the system supports higher adoption and more consistent safety coverage across sites. Earlier detection of fall-related incidents can help reduce downtime, lower incident-related costs, and improve response times in critical situations. As the technology is commercialized, Alpha Nova is positioned to expand into mining and other high-risk industries, contributing to job creation and reinforcing Ontario’s role in developing next-generation safety technologies.
