Smart City Water

About

Company Description: Smart City Water Inc. is a technology company specializing in advanced software and analytics solutions for municipal wastewater and stormwater collection systems. The company has established a strong track record delivering digital solutions and data-driven decision-support tools to municipalities and engineering firms across Ontario and worldwide. SCW’s core products and services focus on system performance management, including cloud-based hydraulic modelling, inflow and infiltration (I/I) reduction analytics, and real-time data integration tools. These solutions support municipalities in optimizing infrastructure investments, deferring costly capital upgrades, and enhancing environmental compliance.

Project

SCW is developing an AI-powered sewer camera monitoring system designed specifically for continuous hydraulic assessment within wastewater collection systems. The solution provides municipalities with real-time intelligence on sewer capacity and operational conditions — at a significantly lower cost and higher deployment density than traditional monitoring technologies. Through the support of the Development and Commercialization program, SCW will be working with the ventureLAB TDS to develop the AI component through model training and refinement using the sample datasets collected during test deployments.

Impact & Outcomes

The outcome of this project will be a validated, commercial-ready AI monitoring solution for municipal sewer systems. The deliverable will consist of a fully integrated hardware–software platform. On the hardware side, SCW’s rugged, battery-powered sewer camera units will be equipped with onboard intelligence to capture and transmit continuous imagery from maintenance holes without requiring frequent confined-space entry. Smart City Water estimates adding an additional 8-12 full-time positions within three years post-project.
