Reel-In Robotics was founded in 2022 to revolutionize the warehousing automation industry through innovative, cost-effective solutions. The company was built upon over a decade of research conducted at the University of Waterloo, leading to the development of its flagship product, CableBot. CableBot is a patented, cable-driven Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) that promises faster operation, lower cost compared to conventional alternatives, and the unique ability to retrofit existing warehouse infrastructure. With a focus on addressing the significant demand for cost effective, adaptable warehousing solutions, Reel-In Robotics is well-positioned to disrupt the multi-billion dollar warehousing automation industry.
Reel-In Robotics’ CableBot technology is currently at the pre-production stage (TRL 8) and they have successfully completed the evaluation phase, during which prototypes were deployed and tested. Reel-In Robotics are currently refining the system for real-world deployment and will use support from the Development and Commercialization Program to access the Vineland dev site to further refine the robots’ operation. Vineland’s infrastructure and research environment provide a controlled yet realistic setting to evaluate the performance of the integrated solution under operational conditions. Vineland will also provide Reel-In Robotics with stakeholder engagement which will be important to the commercial success of the product.
The proposed project will result in several tangible outcomes that demonstrate the feasibility, functionality, and market readiness of Reel-In Robotics’ high-density racking system integrated with Crate CableBot technology. The support from the Development and Commercialization Program will allow Reel-In Robotics to advance their solution towards commercialization. Reel-In Robotics estimates that they will realize $5 million in sales by 2027 and create up to 15 new positions to support the anticipated growth.
