Project

This project centres on advancing an AI-enabled battery intelligence system for heavy-duty electric vehicles operating in mining environments. In collaboration with Cambrian College’s Centre for Smart Mining, NORCAT, and supported by the CIT Development and Commercialization program, the solution combines onboard hardware that monitors real-time energy flow with software analytics that interpret task-based operating data. The system is designed to give operators and planners clearer insight into battery performance under real working conditions, helping them anticipate usage, reduce downtime, and extend battery life. Through integration and testing on industrial electric vehicles, including underground equipment, the project will validate system performance, collect high-quality datasets, and refine AI models to support deployment readiness.

Impact

This project positions Podco to move from prototype to early commercialization by validating its technology in real mining operations. The solution addresses a key barrier to electrification by giving operators practical, data-driven insight into battery performance, improving confidence in electric fleet adoption. It creates opportunities for new revenue through deployments with major mining companies and supports future expansion into adjacent sectors such as construction and forestry. The project also contributes to job creation and strengthens Ontario’s role in developing clean, intelligent technologies for industrial electrification.
