North Cargo Trading

About

North Cargo Trading is a farm operation and a foundational contributor to Canada’s agri- food sector. The company is engaged in primary agricultural production, encompassing the full cycle of farm-level activities, including cultivation, harvesting, and operational planning that collectively support the integrity and continuity of the food supply chain.  The company produces primary agricultural products that serve as essential raw inputs for processors, distributors, and food retailers operating throughout Ontario and the broader Canadian agri-food ecosystem. Its farm-level operations are designed to deliver consistent, high-quality agricultural output that meets the demands of downstream industry partners.

Project

The company operates in a highly dynamic agricultural environment where producers must respond to fluctuating market demand, climate variability, input cost pressures, and increasingly complex supply chain requirements. As a farm-level contributor to Ontario’s agri-food value chain, the company relies on accurate operational planning, efficient resource management, and timely decision-making to maintain productivity and supply reliability.  Through the support of the Future Ready program, the leadership and operational team will gain foundational knowledge and practical understanding of Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI applications relevant to agriculture. The training will help the company identify realistic AI use cases within farm operations, improve productivity through AI-assisted decision-making, and explore opportunities to strengthen supply chain coordination with downstream partners.

Impact

Following the completion of the AI training, farm operators, management, and administrative staff will gain foundational AI literacy and the ability to identify practical AI applications within their day-to-day agricultural responsibilities, including crop planning, resource management, and supply coordination.  This training could help support a 15% growth in farm productivity and revenue.
