
Namu Robotics Canada Inc. is a Canadian cleantech startup developing AI-powered robotic systems for reforestation and land reclamation. The company’s technology integrates advanced navigation, precision planting, and geo-tagging capabilities to enable faster, lower-cost, and more effective tree planting with higher survival rates. Namu mainly operates across mining, forestry, and carbon markets, offering robotics, monitoring platforms, and data tools that support ESG reporting, carbon credits, and biodiversity outcomes.
In collaboration with RoboHub at the University of Waterloo, and supported by the CIT Technology Access Program, this project focuses on advancing control systems for Namu’s robotic tree-planting platform through the development of tele-operation capabilities. The work establishes a critical foundation for reliable operation in complex, uneven environments such as post-mining landscapes, where terrain, slopes, and debris present significant challenges. Through access to RoboHub’s robotics expertise, testing environments, and technical support, the project will validate early-stage control strategies and system performance, creating a strong baseline for future autonomous functionality.
This project moves Namu Robotics closer to commercial deployment by strengthening the reliability and control of its robotic platform in real-world conditions. By establishing a validated foundation for autonomy, the company is better positioned to launch pilot projects with mining and reforestation partners, supporting faster and more cost-effective land rehabilitation. The technology has the potential to significantly improve productivity while reducing safety risks associated with manual planting in difficult terrain. It also opens pathways for new revenue streams through robotics deployment, data services, and carbon monitoring, while contributing to job creation and advancing Ontario’s leadership in robotics and climate-focused innovation.
