Metropolitan Technologies Inc. is an Ottawa-based startup developing dual-use cybersecurity and data management technology to secure critical infrastructure and defence systems. Project

Metropolitan is collaborating with J-Squared Technologies Inc. and Becker Mining Systems Canada to integrate its cybersecurity and data management platform with Becker’s mining assets. The project focuses on connecting and protecting operational technology systems and sensitive data while demonstrating seamless network switching and ad-hoc network extension using Metropolitan’s platform and J-Squared’s hardware. The solution establishes a secure data infrastructure that enables real-time connectivity, monitoring, and control of fixed and mobile assets, supporting applications such as predictive maintenance, asset optimization, and worker safety monitoring.

Impact

The project will advance Metropolitan’s cybersecurity and data management platform toward commercialization, enabling secure, resilient, and connected mining operations. By providing a comprehensive platform built with the highest security and functional safety rigour required in high-stakes environments, the solution will help organizations meet compliance while unlocking new value through secure connectivity and data management. Outcomes include high-value job creation, expanded commercial partnerships with global system integrators and OEMs, and strengthening Ontario’s position as a leader in cybersecurity, critical infrastructure protection, and advanced industrial technologies.
