Founded in 1998, MARLEX Engineering Inc. www.marlexeng.com is an Ontario-based engineering firm specializing in embedded firmware, IoT, electronics design, and intellectual property development. The company brings new electronic products to market through both in-house innovation and contract engineering services, with experience spanning medical, biotech, automotive, industrial, and consumer sectors. MARLEX’s portfolio includes advanced technologies such as surgical robots, autonomous industrial vehicles, and water purification systems.
With support from the CIT Development and Commercialization Program and Cambrian College’s Centre for Smart Mining, MARLEX is advancing their SCAN~LINK AI 360-Degree RFID Detection System, commercially available through SCAN~LINK Technologies Inc. www.scan-link.com. Building on its established passive RFID safety platform, the new solution will use an omnidirectional antenna to create a 6-meter detection zone, enhanced by edge-based AI and integrated camera systems for real-time worker detection. This innovation directly addresses critical safety challenges in mining by ensuring operators are alerted to workers nearby, even in blind spots or high-risk environments. By extending its technology to underground and surface mining, MARLEX is setting a new benchmark for industrial safety systems.
The project will deliver a fully validated, market-ready SCAN~LINK 360 AI platform with certified versions for both surface and underground mining applications. It is expected to generate up to 12 jobs and approximately $11.4 million in additional revenue over four years while expanding the company’s presence into the mining sector alongside eight other established markets. This milestone strengthens MARLEX’s reputation as a Canadian leader in industrial safety technology and highlights the team’s continued commitment to innovation and worker protection across multiple industries.
