Laipac Technology Inc.

About

Laipac Technology Inc. designs and manufactures IoT products in Ontario. Laipac’s solutions monitor ATMs, safeguard construction equipment, protect lone workers’ safety, monitor elderly patients, provide law enforcement to monitor offenders. Laipac has provided over 100,000 vehicle tracking devices in LATAM and is the official provider to PEMEX and Airbus. Laipac also developed the Next-Gen COVID diagnostic system during the pandemic. Laipac’s new innovation is the LooKow Livestock Management System for livestock industry.  LooKow provides biosensing of cattle via ear tags and collector gateways which monitor body temperature to provide insight into such health factors such as disease, calving alerts, grazing impact and fertility – all which can impact animal health and profitability at the farm level.

Project

The LooKow Livestock Management system is current at TRL 6 and Laipac will further tune their algorithm with real field tests this fall.  Laipac has also identified the need to assess their current cybersecurity state as their solution will be gathering data from farms, employs an app for farmers to access information and will also have an e-commerce aspect to the platform – all potential threat surfaces for cyberattacks.  With support from the Development and Commercialization Program, Laipac will work with the CyberRange Technology Development Site to identify potential cyber security risks and then develop and execute a strategy to address such risks.

Impact & Outcomes

At the conclusion of the project, the LooKow solution will be at TRL 8 with fully functional prototypes. These prototypes can be used in field demonstrations with real users to get an extensive technical and economic evaluation by potential customers and train data models with real data from farms and animals. At least two patents are expected as LooKow will look to revolutionize current livestock management practices.  Laipac expects rapid growth over the first 5 years, reaching 250K units sold in the second year and about 2 million units after 5 years of commercialization.  Laipac also anticipates hiring up to 10 additional full-time employees to support the expected growth.
