Korotu Technology

About

Korotu Technology is an Ontario-based social enterprise that develops software that empowers communities to prioritize, measure, monitor, and report on nature based climate solutions. Korotu is working towards a world where 30% of the Earth’s surface is meaningfully protected from deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate change impacts in the next decade. We envision a robust protection of the critical ecosystems achieved through collaboration between land stewards, farmers, indigenous peoples, funders, and policy setters.  Korotu’s LandSteward Platform helps users measure, monitor, and validate nature based climate solutions, using four modules: ForestChangeWatch, CarbonWatch, DroneWatch and Carbon Cruise.  Korotu’s solution significantly reduces the cost and complexity of forest carbon projects while improving accuracy and accessibility. By combining satellite technology, drone data, and mobile tools, along with artificial intelligence we are making professional-grade forest carbon measurement accessible to organizations of all sizes, including Ontario’s agricultural producers.

Project

Through the support of the Development and Commercialization Program, Korotu will continue the development of the LandSteward platform, to prepare the modules for high quality paid beta launches with market leading AI and robust cybersecurity.  Korotu will be focusing on two critical technologies – AI and Cybersecurity. Firstly, they will further extend the proprietary AI algorithms that are used to derive carbon estimates.  Secondly, as they prepare for launch, the company will focus on cybersecurity by adopting improved security measures into the LandSteward applications.  Access to the CyberRange TDS will be invaluable as Korotu reviews its cybersecurity requirements.

Impact & Outcomes

Korotu aims to have two software modules (ForestChangeWatch and CarbonWatch) completed and ready for paid-beta in a market-ready state by the end of the six-month project, with two further modules significantly developed (DroneWatch and CarbonCruise) with the intention to release these later in 2025.  Through this project and the commercialization it will support, Korotu anticipates hiring nine (9) new fulltime equivalent jobs from 2025 to 2027 and generate up to $1million in additional revenue driven by the release of the four modules.
