Kaaj Energy Inc. is a developer of thermal energy storage (TES) solutions. Their TES solution supports reduction of energy cost and fossil fuel consumption by storing green off-peak electricity, industrial waste heat, or biomass energy, and provides on-demand heat (hot air, hot water, steam, etc) to displace consumption of natural gas or other fossil fuels. Kaaj is founded in April 2020, and has a patent granted in the U.S. on its thermal energy storage solution. Kaaj has a team of sustainable-minded engineers and business individuals on the mission to eliminate carbon emissions and reduce energy cost by using the green energy resources such as solar and wind power and biomass energy for the agri-food, commercial, and manufacturing sectors.
Kaaj’s TES system is equipped with an AI tool that optimizes the TES operation based on historical data on the local weather and the client’s heating demand. The AI tool undergoes continual learning and optimization as it operates and receives new real-time data. With the support of the Technology Access program, Kaaj will utilize the Vineland TDS to conduct a feasibility study to assess their TES system. This assessment will include identification of requirements for installation at commercial sites, identification of potential greenhouse candidates for future studies and identifying the heating requirements of greenhouses.
This project will identify 3-5 potential greenhouses in the range of 30-50 acres. The TES would provide at least $125k waste disposal and energy cost savings and at least 300 tons of emissions reduction to each greenhouse. The project will also identify the connection and integration requirements of the TES system to greenhouses as well as mitigating the risk factors. The Technology Access Program supported project will provide Kaaj with vital information on how to position their solution in the Ontario greenhouse industry.
