JK Canada Trading Inc. is an agricultural production business specializing in high quality vegetables and fruits for the wholesale food supply market. Headquartered in Ontario, the company operates with a fully integrated farm-to-market model that enables control over every stage of the production lifecycle—from planting and harvesting to packaging, quality assurance, and distribution. After expanding into farming operations in 2024, JK Canada Trading has strengthened its ability to manage product freshness, consistency, and food safety, ensuring that all produce delivered to customers is traceable, carefully handled, and grown with care.

Project

Through the support of the Development and Commercialization program, JK Canada Trading Inc. is developing an enhanced crop monitoring and decision-support system designed to give farms timely, consistent, and structured insight into field conditions.  The proposed solution introduces a more proactive and reliable monitoring framework by incorporating highresolution visual observation tools positioned throughout the growing environment.  JK Trading will work with the Cambrian College TDS for support in development, refinement, and validation of the solution by providing access to controlled testing environments, advanced machine vision infrastructure, and specialized analytical expertise.

Impact

This project will result in a fully developed and validated crop monitoring and decision-support system that enhances how agricultural operations observe plant conditions and respond to emerging issues.  JK Trading estimates that the solution will reduce crop loss by 10% – translating to $200,000 savings per year as well as $24,000 savings per year in crop scouting costs.  JK Trading will be looking to hire three new full-time staff one year post-project to support the new platform.
