Hybrid Power Solutions

About

Hybrid Power Solutions (HPS) is an Ontario-based clean technology company that designs and manufactures advanced portable and stationary battery energy storage systems (BESS). Its solutions replace traditional diesel and gasoline generators with reliable, emission-free power for industries operating in remote and demanding environments, including mining, construction, utilities, and defense. Through its core product line, HPS delivers scalable, clean energy systems that integrate renewable inputs and support the transition toward more sustainable and efficient power solutions.

Project

This project will develop and validate HPS Air, an integrated IoT communications module for battery energy storage systems, in collaboration with the Rogers-University of Waterloo 5G Testbed and supported by the CIT Development and Commercialization program. The solution embeds 5G and LTE connectivity, edge computing, and secure data management directly into HPS energy systems, enabling real-time monitoring, remote diagnostics, and performance optimization. The project will validate system reliability, connectivity in low-signal environments, and secure data transmission, demonstrating how intelligent, connected energy systems can operate efficiently in remote and off-grid conditions.

Impact

The project positions Hybrid Power Solutions to accelerate commercialization of its HPS Air technology across industries requiring reliable, remote energy solutions. By enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and improved system performance, the technology supports reduced downtime, lower operating costs, and increased energy efficiency for end users. The project also creates opportunities for recurring revenue through integrated hardware and software offerings, expands market adoption across multiple sectors, and reinforces Ontario’s leadership in clean, connected energy technologies.
