With more than 55 years of experience, Hoogendoorn is one of the front runners in the horticultural industry. Hoogendoorn creates sustainable and user-friendly monitoring- and process automation solutions for all types of horticulture growers. The solutions, combined with high-quality training, service and support, are offering their customers a total package to optimize their entire business processes. With the goal of creating optimal growth for the farmers’ crops, minimal use of natural resources and a manner to grow towards a more sustainable horticulture.
This Development and Commercialization supported project aims to integrate explainable ML/AI algorithms into Hoogendoorn’s existing autonomous greenhouse control system. Hoogendoorn will trial and validate the use of Crop Convergence’s plant-based digital twins and decision tools using the Vineland Research TDS tomato production greenhouse. By leveraging historic production data and live breeding trials, Hoogendoorn will develop ML/AI to predict plant growth, optimize growing recipes, and accelerate autonomous controlled environment agriculture (CEA) in Ontario’s greenhouse sector.
The project will deliver a validated proof-of-concept autonomous growing system enhanced by Crop Convergence’s explainable ML/AI plant-based digital twin technology integrated with Hoogendoorn’s IIVO climate control platform and LetsGrow data system. Hoogendoorn anticipates doubling its Ontario team and expanding market footprint within 3 years post-project, driven by enhanced product offerings with AI integration. Autonomous growing solutions such as LetsGrow promise improved yield predictability, reduced labor dependencies, and lower resource costs for Ontario growers, with a realistic ROI for growers.
