
FiniteFarms, operating as Finite Robotics, was founded by an Ontario apple grower with 15+ years of tech entrepreneurship in sustainability mobility. By integrating advanced robotics and AI in the Agri-Food sector, Finite Farms aims to improve labor productivity and bolster the competitiveness of Ontario’s apple industry. This platform will also form the basis for Finite’s pruning and harvesting robotics, which are the other two high-labour orchard tasks creating further jobs and economic activity. Most importantly, Finite is seeking to improve productivity for growers (projected 10× increase in thinning labor productivity) during a challenging time for the Ontario fruit industry.
Prior to this project, Finite Farm successfully developed the first iteration of the fruitlet computer vision system and refined it during the off-season at Velocity’s Innovation Arena. Additionally, the team has assembled a miniaturized rover configuration with a thinning arm that has successfully integrated the vision system with a prototype version of the mechanical intelligence arm design and prototype end-effector. With the support of the Development and Commercialization Program, Finite Farm wishes to further refine both the AI algorithms for vision detection as well as the robotic picker functionality. Finite Farm will have access to the Vineland TDS as the Vineland team has deep experience in agricultural robots and end-effector design. The project will include testing of the original end-effector design on multiple acres during season, and testing of the upgraded end-effector in a lab setting post-season.
A successful project will result in the development of a full orchard-grade robotic thinner with the upgraded end-effector. Completion of the Development and Commercialization project will position Finite Farms to expand to multiple orchard sites across Ontario, targeting 5 units in 2026 and 20 units by 2027, forecasting $1 million in revenue, substantial orchard cost savings ($80,000 total among pilot growers in 2026, and over $600k in 2027), and increased grower yield and revenues (over $1.4 million in incremental grower revenue in 2027).
