FiComm Technologies Inc.

About

FiComm Technologies Inc. is a technology company specializing in the development of safety-focused hardware and software solutions for the mining and tunnelling industries. Founded in 2019 and based in Chelmsford, Ontario, the company designs and manufactures innovative systems that improve operational safety and efficiency, leveraging advanced technologies such as AI and intelligent control systems. Through a strong network of distribution partners, FiComm delivers solutions that help protect workers while enhancing productivity in complex underground environments.

Project

The project focuses on developing and validating an AI-enabled traffic control system for underground mining environments, designed to improve both safety and operational flow. The solution combines vision AI, logic control, and FiComm’s VACS (Visual Alert Control System) LED lighting to detect vehicles and pedestrians in real time and dynamically manage right-of-way at underground intersections. The project, in collaboration with the NORCAT Underground Centre, will validate the system’s performance in managing traffic congestion, reducing collision risks, and improving movement efficiency in confined, single-lane mining environments.

Impact

The project positions FiComm Technologies to accelerate commercialization of its AI-driven traffic control solution within the mining sector, enabling safer and more efficient underground operations. By addressing key challenges related to congestion, visibility, and pedestrian safety, the technology supports improved traffic flow, reduced operational delays, and enhanced worker protection. The project also creates opportunities for product expansion into additional industrial applications, new job creation, and broader adoption across Ontario’s mining and tunnelling industries.
