Environmental & Power Solutions Inc. (EPS) is a Waterloo-based engineering and environmental consulting firm specializing in innovative, data-driven solutions for municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment systems. Project

Supported by the CIT Development and Commercialization Program and delivered in collaboration with Lambton College and wastewater treatment industry partners, this project focuses on the development and validation of a proprietary optimization platform for mining wastewater treatment operations. The platform combines machine learning, digital twin simulation, and reinforcement learning to analyze live plant data and provide actionable recommendations or automated control adjustments. The system is designed to continuously optimize plant performance by improving effluent quality, reducing energy demand, lowering chemical consumption, and supporting operator decision-making through intuitive dashboards.

Impact

This project will accelerate commercialization of EPS’s proprietary optimization platform by delivering a validated, pilot-ready solution that reduces operating costs and improves environmental performance in wastewater treatment facilities.
