Econse Water Technologies

About

Since 2013, Econse Water Technologies Inc. has built decentralized treatment systems to help mitigate the effects of water pollution and meet regulatory guidelines. Econse solutions are helping businesses and communities grow without growing their impact on the environment. Headquartered in Hamilton, Ontario, Econse has expanded its reach across Canada and recently entered the US market, providing cutting-edge technology to businesses and communities alike. Our easy-to-operate technology has been readily adopted by SME businesses in industries such as Food and Beverage, Agri Food, manufacturing and more. An example of our turn-key treatment systems is Bench Brewery, and our BrüClean System which won the 2023 Water Canada award for most innovative wastewater solution.

Project

With support from the Development and Commercialization Program,  Econse will now focus on developing an AI-powered co-pilot system for the agri-food sector. This AI will assist operators with real-time monitoring, troubleshooting, and training, reducing the need for specialized technicians and enhancing the usability of their wastewater systems. The project aims to improve environmental compliance, increase technology adoption, and enable agri-food businesses to manage wastewater more efficiently, addressing sector-specific challenges such as nutrient overloading and infrastructure limitations.

The system will be initially deployed and tested in collaboration with Vineland Research Centre, where it will be integrated into a commercial Agri-Food operation.  This deployment will provide a real world application for validating both the wastewater treatment technology with the AI integration.

Impact & Outcomes

After the system is validated through the Vineland Research Centre’s network through the support of the Development and Commercialization Program, further optimization may be needed to refine both the AI’s functionality and the wastewater treatment system’s adaptability to different agri-food environments.  Once the technology has been fully commercialized, Econse is forecasting revenues of $5 million over the next three years and the creation of up to 12 new full-time positions.  Additionally, the Econse solution will help reduce negative environmental impacts of greenhouse operations.
