Dougan Ecology

About

Dougan Ecology is an ecological consulting and design firm that has built a long-standing reputation for delivering innovative, science-based solutions that integrate ecological preservation and management within the land-use planning and development industry. Company services include natural heritage system planning, ecological inventories and monitoring, environmental impact assessments, urban forest management, subwatershed and watershed studies, landscape and restoration design, and contract administration. These services are anchored by advanced spatial data management, rigorous field inventory methods, and strong quality-assurance standards that ensure defensible, policy-compliant results.

Project

This project will deliver a multi-layer ecological intelligence platform that modernizes how ecological information is processed, interpreted, and applied in planning and natural heritage decision-making. The innovation advances current practice by moving away from one-off, manual desktop analyses toward a scalable, AI-enabled, policy-aware pipeline that integrates data fusion, ecological modeling, regulatory logic, and transparent validation workflows.  Through the support of the Development and Commercialization program, Dougan Ecology will work with the Evergreen TDS to test workflows, models and outputs.

Impact & Outcomes

This project will deliver a validated prototype ecological intelligence pipeline and a suite of decision-ready geospatial products designed to support municipal planning, natural heritage evaluation, and project approvals.  Dougan Ecology estimates that the solution will help triple their revenue over the next three years and lead to hiring an additional 8 to 12 full-time employees.
