With support from the CIT Development and Commercialization program and Cambrian College Centre for Smart Mining, Deepwater Robotics is advancing its AUV platform and sensor suite to enable high-resolution, large-scale surveying of polymetallic nodule regions in deep-ocean environments. The system is designed to operate autonomously over long distances without the need for a crewed support vessel, significantly reducing survey costs and improving access to remote locations. The project focuses on developing advanced acoustic and optical sensing capabilities alongside AI-based data processing tools that analyze collected data and deliver actionable insights. By combining low-cost hardware, long-range autonomy, and intelligent data analysis, the solution enables more efficient, scalable, and environmentally informed subsea exploration.
