Cambridge Treats

About

Cambridge Treats manufactures functional pet treats, including extrusion-based dental chews, for private-label and contract manufacturing customers serving the Canadian and North American pet food markets. The company operates continuous extrusion lines as part of its core production operations, which generated commercial revenue of $1M in 2025. Maintaining consistent quality, yield, and uptime is critical to meeting customer requirements and remaining cost-competitive in a highly regulated, margin-sensitive market.

Project

This Development and Commercialization project directly supports the company’s core manufacturing operations by implementing enhanced process monitoring and analytics on an existing extrusion line. By improving real-time visibility, historical analysis, and statistical process control, the project will address current limitations in data accessibility and process insight, enabling more proactive operational decision-making.  Cambridge Treats will be working with the MMRI TDS  who will provide technical validation, best-practice review, and knowledge transfer activities, including review of data acquisition architecture, analytics methodology, dashboard usability, and documentation.

Impact

The project will deliver a production-ready system that captures and structures critical extrusion process data from existing control systems, supports real-time visualization, and enables historical analysis and statistical process control on a live extrusion line.  Use of this solution is expected to reduce scrap and unplanned downtime by 5% resulting in up to $250,000 in early savings on an individual extrusion line.
