Project

This project focuses on developing a sensor-enabled, critical-environment HVAC filter system that delivers industry-leading energy savings, real-time monitoring and predictive capabilities to a traditionally manual maintenance process. In collaboration with Trane Canada and BGIS, the solution integrates onboard sensors that feed an AI and cloud-based analytics engine. The system helps operators understand when maintenance is needed to ensure optimal airflow and system energy use, rather than relying on fixed replacement schedules. The project will validate the technology in operational environments, demonstrating how smart filtration can reduce maintenance demands and improve energy efficiency across buildings.

Impact

This project positions Blade Air to commercialize a new category of smart filtration technology that directly addresses labour and energy shortages and inefficiencies in building operations, especially in critical environments. By reducing unnecessary filter replacements, improving maintenance planning, and improving building energy efficiency by 6-18%, the solution helps lower operating costs while improving system reliability. With strong partners in Trane Canada and BGIS, the project creates a clear path to deployment and strengthens Ontario’s leadership in clean building technologies.
