BH Frontier Solutions Inc., founded in 2020, is a Canadian agtech company focused on developing AI-powered autonomous agricultural robots, with a strong emphasis on non-chemical weed control and precision agrochemical application. The company’s innovations are designed to address critical challenges in modern agriculture related to labor shortages, herbicide resistance, and sustainability. BHF Robotics intends to reduce herbicide usage by providing electric weeding as alternative to control weeds on farms and thereby reduce the need and reliance on manual labor for weed removal and alleviate herbicide resistance.
BHF is conducting field tests on autonomous electric weeding technology, which uses high voltage electricity to kill weeds, in order to reduce the needs for manual labor and herbicides. The tests are designed to assess the integration of robotics systems and AI systems of BHF Robot and the overall performance in real world farming systems. With the support of the Technology Access Program, BHF will access the Vineland Research Centre TDS to test the new crop centric algorithm on low density crops that may increase the efficiency by 3 times. The in-field validation of the efficacy and speed can help adoption and commercialization of such technology in Canadian agriculture.
This project will help BHF perform a comprehensive test cycle in with actual crops to provide them with an assessment of results, confirming that the weeding robot delivers high weed removal efficacy while causing negligible or no damage to crops, ensuring it meets practical agricultural performance standards. This solution could potentially create savings of $400 – $600 per acre for farmers and allow BHF to increase revenues and hire up to 5 new skilled workers.
