Apogee Ceramics Inc.

About

Apogee Ceramics Inc., founded in 2006 and based in Paris, Ontario, designs and manufactures advanced ceramic components for industrial heating, combustion systems, and energy-efficient applications. The company’s core products—infrared ceramic plaques, refractory parts, and specialty ceramics—are supplied globally to OEMs in the industrial, commercial, and residential sectors. With over two decades of manufacturing expertise, Apogee focuses on continuous process innovation, waste reduction, and sustainability to address growing market demand for energy efficiency and emissions reduction. Its team of 37 employees combines engineering, materials science, and data analytics to deliver durable, high-performance ceramic solutions.

Project

Apogee, in partnership with the McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute, will develop standardized material recipes by applying tribological testing, coatings analysis, and machine learning to reduce scrap rates and optimize production. The project integrates experimental testing of ceramic formulations and coatings with predictive AI models that link material properties, wear behavior, and process parameters. This approach will produce validated datasets and predictive tools that enable recipe optimization and extend die life. Using McMaster’s specialized materials and coating laboratories, the project will generate insights that can be immediately embedded in Apogee’s production environment to improve product quality, reduce variability, and enhance process control.

Impact

The initiative will yield validated predictive models, optimized ceramic recipes, and a digital decision-support prototype for manufacturing. Apogee anticipates reducing scrap by 10–30% within the first nine months, translating into $300K–$550K in new annual revenue and $150K–$200K in cost savings. The project will also create 1–3 skilled roles in production, analytics, and quality control while improving sustainability through reduced waste and energy consumption. By combining AI and materials engineering, Apogee will strengthen Ontario’s leadership in advanced ceramics manufacturing and set new standards for sustainable, data-driven process optimization.
