AI-Innovate is a Canadian technology company specializing in the development of AI-driven solutions for industrial automation, manufacturing vision services, precision agriculture, and environmental monitoring. Project

AI- Innovate has developed an AI-enabled Smart Irrigation System specifically tailored to basil cultivated on soil-based table platforms in greenhouses. The system integrates hyperspectral imaging, chlorophyllfluorescence indices, machine learning, and IoT-enabled precision irrigation control to detect early plant stress and adjust watering dynamically. With support from the Development and Commercialization program, AI-Innovate we will continue to develop and validate the system in a controlled environment using a single basil cultivation table simulating real greenhouse conditions at the Vineland TDS. This will allow close monitoring, rapid iteration, and robust validation of all hardware and software components prior to scaling up to commercial environments.

Impact & Outcomes

The proposed Smart Irrigation System project will result in several tangible outcomes that advance both technological innovation and commercialization readiness in the agri-tech sector. These outcomes will be realized through a combination of hardware, software, and validated integration workflows tailored for greenhouse environments.  The Smart Irrigation System is expected to generate significant economic value for both AI-Innovate and its strategic partners in Ontario through new job creation, increased revenues, enhanced productivity, and water cost savings.  AI-Innovate forecasts up to $1.5 million in revenue and the creation of up to 6 full-time jobs the third year post-project.
