Project

With support from the Ontario Centre for Innovation and Cambrian College’s Centre for Smart Mining, Mapleview Energy is advancing its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS 1.0). This system repurposes retired EV batteries and integrates an AI-driven Battery and Energy Management System to optimize energy use, extend battery life, and provide reliable backup power. The project will test the system’s ability to help industrial operations manage energy profiles, cut peak demand costs, and strengthen grid resilience. By validating both technical and economic feasibility, Mapleview Energy is demonstrating how second-life batteries can deliver affordable, sustainable energy at scale.

Impact

This project will move Mapleview Energy’s BESS technology closer to commercialization, advancing its readiness level through rigorous simulation and validation. The initiative is expected to generate skilled technical jobs during development, with additional manufacturing and installation roles as the solution scales. Backed by CIT, Mapleview Energy is building momentum as an emerging cleantech leader in Ontario, with long-term potential to establish large-scale battery repurposing facilities that create jobs, drive revenue, and deliver meaningful cost savings to energy-intensive industries.
