Anaergia Inc.

About

Anaergia Inc. is an Ontario-based cleantech company that designs, builds, and operates systems converting organic waste into renewable natural gas, clean water, and nutrient-rich fertilizer. Anaergia’s technologies serve municipal wastewater, food and beverage, and agricultural markets worldwide, with core engineering and product development based at its Burlington, Ontario headquarters.  Anaergia was founded to solve one of the world’s most overlooked climate problems: the organic waste buried in municipal solid waste. As organic material decomposes in landfills, it releases methane, a greenhouse gas far more potent than CO2. Food waste alone is one of the largest contributors to global GHG emissions, rivaling the output of entire industrialized nations. Anaergia was created to address this problem by cost effectively converting organic waste into renewable natural gas, clean water, and fertilizer.

Project

Anaergia’s Application Engineering team manages complex proposal processes that involve reviewing extensive technical documentation, extracting relevant scope requirements, verifying code compliance, and preparing comprehensive response packages. This project will develop an AI-powered document intelligence platform to enhance the efficiency and quality of this workflow.  Through this Development and Commercialization supported project, Anaergia will work with the ventureLAB TDS to develop a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system built on large language model (LLM) infrastructure to automate and accelerate the Application Engineering proposal process.

Impact

The AI platform proposed in this project is a competitive tool, with its purpose to help  Anaergia to compete against multinational engineering companies.  The commercial opportunity is not in selling the AI platform itself; it is in using the platform to sell more Ontario designed cleantech.  Use of this tool will help the company increase proposals drafting by two to three times faster, which could help generate up to $10M – $30M in additional revenue and create the need for 5-10 new full-time employees.
