Turnkey Communications is a Thunder Bay-based systems integrator specializing in private cellular networks, digital infrastructure, and industrial communication systems. Founded in 1996, the company supports sectors including mining, energy, utilities, transportation, construction, forestry, and public safety with reliable connectivity solutions for remote and complex environments. Its flagship platform, KYRO, is a modular private LTE/5G system designed for rapid deployment, enabling real-time communications, telemetry, and IoT connectivity in areas with limited or no existing infrastructure.

Project

This project focuses on advancing KYRO from pre-commercial development to engineering-certified, market-ready status through three coordinated innovation streams. Working with Cambrian College, Turnkey will assess and validate the KYRO Plus mobile communications tower to ensure safe and reliable operation across a range of environments. In parallel, the team will evaluate the requirements needed to re-engineer KYRO Pro into a road-legal, trailer-based system for easier deployment. A third stream explores the development of a software-defined radio (SDR) architecture to support multi-band and multi-region operation, reducing hardware complexity and enabling future global deployment opportunities.

Impact

This project establishes the foundation for scaling KYRO as a commercially ready platform for industrial connectivity across domestic and international markets. By validating system design and improving deployment flexibility, Turnkey is positioned to expand into new regions and sectors while reducing barriers to adoption. The initiative supports job creation in engineering, manufacturing, and field operations, while strengthening Northern Ontario’s role in advanced communications technologies. As KYRO deployments increase, the project will drive new revenue opportunities, support local supply chains, expand export opportunities for Ontario-developed technology, and contribute to broader adoption of private wireless infrastructure across critical industries.
