YieldWize is an AgTech startup focused on transforming yield prediction and crop monitoring in the greenhouse industry. The company is developing an innovative system that integrates computer vision, multispectral imaging and sensor-based technology (radar) to monitor both external plant characteristics and internal attributes, at scale. By leveraging machine learning, YieldWize aims to analyze intricate growth patterns and climate data to deliver precise, data-driven crop forecasts. While initially focusing on tomatoes, sweet peppers, cucumbers and strawberries, the technology platform has potential applications across various greenhouse crops
YieldWize proposes to collaborate with the Vineland TDS and leverage the Technology Access Program to advance their yield prediction system for greenhouse operations. The collaboration will focus on three key phases: a consultation with greenhouse growers to validate our approach to yield prediction and plant-level data collection strategies; followed by a system architecture review to optimize the multi-camera (RGB camera and multispectral camera) and radar sensor configuration, focusing on edge computing solutions for greenhouse environments; and creation and optimize the multi-modal sensor fusion pipeline that combines visual (multi-bands) and radar data for enhanced prediction accuracy. This collaboration will leverage Vineland’s unique expertise in both greenhouse operations and advanced computer vision applications to accelerate YieldWize’s development and ensure the system is robust for commercial deployment.
Upon a successful Technology Access Program project completion, YieldWize will have a solution that has been validated in a commercial-like setting. After validation, the company can move towards commercialization of their platform. With over 3,000 acres of greenhouses, Ontario is a key market for such solutions which have the potential to generate up to $10,000 per acre for growers.
