Bao Life Brand Inc., operating as BAO Laboratory, is a Markham-based deep-tech beauty company combining skincare science, artificial intelligence, and robotic manufacturing. The company has grown from a direct-to-consumer skincare brand into a platform for personalized beauty, with certified manufacturing operations and a commercial customer base. Its GLOWBALANCE AI system is designed to move beyond standard product recommendations by analyzing individual skin needs and producing customized formulations on demand. BAO’s work sits at the intersection of cosmetics manufacturing, retail experience, cleanroom production, data analytics, and advanced robotics.

Project

Through this project, BAO will optimize and commercialize the GLOWBALANCE AI platform, an integrated scan-to-product system for personalized skincare manufacturing. The platform uses an in-store scanner to analyze skin, an AI model to design a tailored formulation, and a robotic system to mix ingredients in a controlled environment within approximately five minutes. Project activities include secure data pipeline development, AI model co-development, robotic pathing simulation, cycle-time optimization, system integration, beta testing, quality assurance, formulation validation, field deployment, and live performance monitoring. Lambton College will support AI, robotics, and data validation as the Technology Development Site.

Impact

The project will support deployment of a commercially operational personalized skincare manufacturing unit and generate the performance data needed for broader rollout. By combining sensing, AI, and robotics in a closed-loop retail manufacturing system, BAO can reduce reliance on one-size-fits-all skincare and create differentiated, high-value customer experiences. The initiative supports high-skilled jobs in AI and advanced manufacturing, strengthens local supply chains, and positions Ontario as a leader in beauty technology and on-demand personalized product manufacturing.
